A museum that conveys the history of Uchiko's wood wax production |
|
|---|---|
During the Edo period, the Kamihaga family was a branch of the Honhaga family, one of the largest wax manufacturers in Japan. The buildings from when the family branched off at the end of the Edo period still remain today. Ten buildings remain, including the main house and the boiler room, and all have been designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. The building has also been developed as a wood wax museum, where actual wax-making tools and production methods are on display, giving visitors a glimpse into the prosperity of Uchiko's wax industry at the time. The storehouse-style cafe in the free admission area of the museum retains the atmosphere of a storehouse and serves drinks such as matcha and coffee. It's the perfect place to take a break during your stroll around Uchiko's townscape. |

A facility where you can learn about the history of Japanese candles. Surprised at how huge the main pillar is! There is also a museum in the back of the premises where you can answer a quiz and receive a postcard. It's worth seeing!
